Nestling
in the foothills of the mighty Ben Nevis, Inverlochy Castle sits
amidst some of Scotland's finest scenery.
Inverlochy
Castle was built in 1863 by the first Lord Abinger, near the site
of the original 13th Century fortress. In September, 1973 during
a trip to Balmoral, Queen Victoria spent a week at Inverlochy
Castle, sketching and painting where she wrote in her diaries,
"I never saw a lovelier or romantic spot".
Inverlochy
Castle had been a private residence for over one hundred years
until 1969 when it was converted from a family home to a country
house hotel.
The
beautiful frescoed ceiling of the Great Hall with its Venetian
crystal chandeliers and handsome staircase reflect the relaxed
and tranquil atmosphere of a bygone era.
With
its views out over the Castle's private Loch, the Drawing Room
has an aura of understated elegance which provides the guests
with a feeling of comfort and luxury.
Each
of the 17 bedrooms, all with private bathroom, have their own
individual design and character along with splendid views of the
grounds and surrounding mountains.
Dinner
is an experience to savour in any of the three dining rooms, each
decorated with period and elaborate furniture presented as gifts
to Inverlochy Castle from the King of Norway.
The
menu features modern Scottish cuisine which is Internationally
recognised by all major guides.
At
Inverlochy Castle, the chef uses the finest local ingredients
including scallops from the Isle of Skye, hand picked wild mushrooms
and local game.
Also
the wine list is both extensive and refined offering a wide variety
of classic and new world wines.
The
area surrounding Inverlochy Castle is rich in landscape and history,
to name but a few of these breathtaking places - the falls at
Glen Nevis, the monument of Glenfinnan and the mountains of Glencoe.
Whilst
staying at Inverlochy Castle, there are various outdoor activities
available including fly fishing for brown trout, clay pigeon shooting
golf, guided walking, pony trekking, tennis, stalking in season
and walked up grouse, pheasant and duck shooting, plus falconry
displays can also be arranged.
Inverlochy
Castle is the perfect venue for both small and intimate weddings
and larger gatherings of up to 50 guests, and when you realise
that Sean Connery and Mel Gibson are but two of the famous names
that have stayed here.
What
better place for Bravehearts to wed than this Highland hideaway
- one of the most luxurious hotels in Scotland.
